Help

How to get started, answers to common questions, and how to delete your account. Can’t find what you need? Email hello@household.co.nz and a real person will answer.

How do I start?

  1. Go to app.household.co.nz. Sign in with Google, or with an email address and password.
  2. Tap Start a family and give your household a name. You’re now its first parent.
  3. Add everyone in your house under Family. You can add the kids before they have a phone.

How do I add my family?

Everyone you add gets their own invite link.

  1. Open their name in Family and copy their link.
  2. Send it to them any way you like, such as a text message.
  3. They open it and sign in, and they join as the person you added, with the name and role you gave them.

Each link works once and lasts seven days. You can make a new one at any time.

Only a parent can make someone else a parent. Anyone who joins with the household’s short code, instead of their own link, joins as a child.

Is there an Android app?

Yes, but it’s still being tested and isn’t on Google Play yet. Until then Household works in any web browser, on a phone or a computer, and you can add it to your home screen.

Want to try the Android app? Email hello@household.co.nz.

Common questions

Can my kids see everything?
They see everything the family shares, including their brothers’ and sisters’ plans. Anything marked “parents only” never reaches their phones.
Can we share with another household?
You can link up with another household, like Grandma’s, and send each other events. Nothing appears in your calendar until you accept it, and neither household can see or change the other’s.
Does it work with Google Calendar?
Yes. In Settings, each person can add their events to Google Calendar. Google only checks for changes every few hours, so for anything urgent, check Household itself.
I forgot my password.
In the Android app, type your email address on the sign-in screen and tap Forgotten your password?. You’ll get a reset link by email. If you only use the website, email us and we’ll send you one.
A phone was lost, or someone else has it.
In Family, a parent can see which phones a child is signed in on, and sign one out, or all of them at once. You can do the same for your own phones.

How do I delete my account?

You can have your Household account and your information deleted at any time. This covers both the website and the Android app.

How to ask

  1. Email hello@household.co.nz from the address you sign in with. Use the subject “Delete my Household account”.
  2. Say whether you want just your own account deleted, or your whole household. Only a parent can ask for a whole household to be deleted.
  3. We’ll reply to check it’s really you, delete it, and let you know when it’s done.

What gets deleted

  • Your sign-in, and your place in every household you’re part of.
  • Your details, your phones, your Google Calendar link, and any AI assistant you connected.
  • If it’s your whole household: everything in it, including events, lists, notes, contacts, photos and files.

What stays

  • If only your own account is deleted, your family keeps what they share, like events you added, with your name taken off.
  • Events you sent to another household, and they accepted, are now theirs. Ask them to delete them.
  • Google deletes its own technical logs after a short time.

Removing a child

A parent can remove a child under Family straight away. That takes them off the family’s events and signs out their phones. To delete their account completely, email us as above.
